On Saturday, July 18, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Morning Star First Baptist Church in Ridgeview, citizens from Hickory and neighboring communities will join fellow Americans at one of hundreds of events nationwide in the “Good Trouble Lives On Weekend of Action” to honor the legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis and fight to protect the growing attacks on Americans’ voting rights. 

 The timing for the Weekend of Action is the weekend of July 17, since July 17 is the sixth anniversary of the death of noted civil rights leader John Lewis, who famously said, “Never, ever, be afraid to make some noise and get in some good trouble, necessary trouble.” 

 The event, to be held rain or shine, will include music and food trucks. Music will be performed by Aquarius Moon & Friendz, an eclectic group of musicians who performed at the 2025 “Good Trouble Lives On” event. Food trucks will be on hand, including Exodus Dawgs 4A Cause.

 Speakers will include Morning Star’s Rev. Dave Roberts, Hickory Councilmember Arnita Dula, and Catawba County Board of Elections member Barry Cheney.  Candidates on the ballot in 2026 are welcome to attend and meet voters.
