This has been a traumatic week for our neighbors in Minneapolis, and we are asking you to call and write to your elected representatives as soon as you are able (contact information at the end of this letter) to demand:

 - thorough independent investigations into the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

 - disapproval of any bills that include funding for DHS, ICE, CBP and other immigration enforcement without appropriate guardrails on agency operations.

 - congressional hearings – transparent and public – into the actions and policies of DHS, ICE, CBP and related agencies with respect to immigration enforcement.  Specific areas of inquiry should include issues noted below.  (if there is too much material below to digest, just jump to the bottom and make some calls!)

ICE and CBP agents have “surged” into numerous US cities, most recently Minneapolis, with provocative and aggressive tactics that increase the risk of injuries and deaths to peaceful and law-abiding protesting citizens. 

We now know of a secret ICE memo that declares that agents are permitted to forcibly enter a home without a judicial warrant.  The ICE memo violates the 4th Amendment and is clearly unconstitutional. 

Hiring and training of the large numbers of new enforcement agents is problematic.  The public should be aware if and how many new hires have past or current associations with Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, etc, and whether any J-6 “tourists” are so employed. 

We all have seen video evidence of two US citizens being murdered on the streets of Minneapolis, of a scantily-clad citizen being taken from his home by agents in sub-zero weather, of children being detained and of them being used to manipulate their relatives, and of people being pepper-sprayed who are already on the ground under total physical control of government agents.  Many, many links document these events.

DHS has disallowed local and state authorities from investigating the killings, and administration officials have immediately and prematurely passed judgments on events (clarifying that the results of any investigation are pre-determined) in ways that simply do not comport with the evidence we can all see.  Stephen Miller, deputy chief-of-staff for the president has declared (here, in the first 50 seconds of this video) that ICE officers have federal immunity while carrying out their duties.  The federal government is obstructing justice.  

Once detained, people are reportedly being held in facilities without adequate food, sanitation, medical care or access to legal representation.  Deaths in these facilities are increasing.  See link.

The amount of funding provided by OBBBA is only now starting to be utilized.  We are on track to see more agents in our streets and more detention facilities erected.  See link.

Our president has repeatedly indicated his interest in invoking the Insurrection Act.  He has stated he regrets that he did not have ballot boxes seized following the 2024 election.  These enforcement operations may be “trial runs” for later escalation.  If such escalation occurs in November, voter intimidation will make free and fair elections impossible.  See link.
