No Kings Rally
With the theme of “Standing for the Least of These,” we collected monetary donations to support the United Way’s ALICE Program which specifically benefits the working poor and those battling poverty in our county. We raised $1050 in cash donations for the cause. More donations went directly to the UW through their QR code.

“Not My President” President’s Day March
We collected urgently needed kitten and puppy food for Catawba County Animal Services. They requested canned kitten food and dry kitten and puppy food. We also asked for “DOLLARS FOR DOGHOUSES” and straw that they distribute to folks in the county who are unable to bring their animals indoors and need a warmer place outside. We accepted CASH MONEY and Venmo donations for this option of this collection effort and then purchased the houses and straw ourselves to reduce the red tape for Catawba County Animal Services. Due to this harsh economy many folks have found themselves unable to feed their animals and have had to surrender them. Animal Services has a 30 day wait list to take in surrendered animals at this time! Folks have also been hit by having to move to other housing and are unable to either take their pets or have them indoors. Times are tough for people AND THEIR PETS. Because of your generosity we were able to donate
100s of lbs of food and 8 doghouses with 10 bales of straw as part of our resolve to provide support to our community...furry or otherwise!

Candlelight Peace Vigil at Union Square in Hickory.
We joined together as a community to share grief about violence in our country and to bring our voices together as one to sing our hopes for a better world into the cold night air. Collection jugs were on hand to accept cash and QR code donations to benefit the Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministries Medical Clinic. This organization was chosen as our beneficiary because the Affordable Care Act subsidies are not going to be continued into the new year and MANY folks will no longer be able to afford their healthcare insurance which will likely cause a tremendous increase in the number of individuals looking to the GHCCM Medical Clinic for services. We collected $600 cash
