“Not My President”

Presidents’ Day March

WHEN: February 16, 2026

11:30 am – 1:00 pm

WHERE: Gather at Hickory’s Sally Mullen Fox Park

2nd Ave NW & Hwy 127

On Feb. 16, Presidents’ Day, Indivisible Citizens of Catawba Valley (ICCV) will hold a “Not My President March” in downtown Hickory. Participants will gather at Sally Mullen Fox Park on Highway 127 and march a 1.5-mile circuit around downtown Hickory to end back at the park.

“This president is leading our nation headlong into an authoritarian regime,” said Deb Johnson, ICCV chair. “He is trampling over the Constitution, using the Office of the Presidency for financial gain—recent reports say his profiteering in just one year back in office exceeds $4 billion  -- and is bringing harm to our neighbors through cuts in SNAP benefits, rising healthcare costs, and by unleashing masked, unarmed, and poorly trained ICE agents in our communities.

“Since Jan. 20, 2025, more than 30 people have died in ICE custody; eight more people have died in dealings with ICE already in 2026. The 47th president is not the type of leader, like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, that Presidents’ Day was created to celebrate. Those two presidents honored their oaths and did much to make our country great.”

Participants will gather at the park starting at 11:30 am, begin marching at 12 noon, and conclude the march at the park by 1:00 pm.

At the Feb. 16 Presidents’ Day March, ICCV’s mutual aid committee will be collecting contributions to support the Catawba County Animal Control Organization. Committee chair Laurie Childres requests donations of “any brand of canned kitten food and/or Purina brand-only dry kitten or puppy food.” Childres said the group will also collect monetary donations (cash, please) for dog houses and straw to support that organization’s warm dogs program.

Childres explained that ICCV chose this giving opportunity because people are struggling to feed their pets due to rising costs of these items as well as “the increased prices of people food and supplies.”

ICCV is a non-partisan grassroots organization working to uphold the U.S. Constitution, reclaim our democracy, and through its mutual-aid efforts help provide for “the least of these.”
