Many Action Items To Choose From This Week

Hello Indivisible Citizens of Catawba Valley,

It’s another Take Action Tuesday from the ICCV Legislative Committee. It is 7 weeks until Election Day, and 30 days until Early Voting begins. The time to take action is NOW.

We have multiple action items and updates this week, so it’s a quick read with no deep dives. In the next few weeks, we will talk about some of the consequential races on the ballot, and about the proposed NC Constitutional Amendments.

CLARIFICATION: We always want to give you the best information we can find in our alerts. In last week’s Take Action Tuesday , we reported that if you have mailed a ballot, and it is not showing as received, you are allowed to go vote in person. Legally, this is true, but with the current climate around voting, election officials recommend the following:
if you mail your ballot, then go to vote in person, be sure to tell the poll worker that you previously mailed a ballot and it is not showing as delivered.

**One more thing on absentee voting. If you do choose to vote absentee, be sure to request your ballot SOON and return it as quickly as you can. The NC State Board of Elections has released a You Tube video to help with making sure your ballot package is completed correctly so that your vote can be counted. Find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=014rCaAlXzU

The North Carolina General Assembly is in recess. There are no legislative actions planned in Raleigh this week.

The House and Senate are in Washington this week. There is the possibility that H.R. 3633,the CLARITY Act, may come up for a vote in the Senate. For a refresher on this cryptocurrency bill, see https://www.indivisibleccv.org/july-21-2026

Feel free to reach out to Senators Tillis and Budd on this issue and point out the following: the bill fails to protect consumers, does not close loopholes that would allow the use of crypto for money laundering, and does little to protect from fraud. A concern among Democratic lawmakers has to do with ethics, particularly around how elected officials, such as the president, can or should be involved in crypto. This is a bad bill that should NOT pass.

ANOTHER ACTION YOU CAN TAKE THIS WEEK

Have you signed up to be part of ICCV’s Election Defense Corps? We are still looking for volunteers willing to be outside poll observers. This is a non-partisan role and training will be provided. Please consider helping. We discussed this in detail in a previous Take Action Tuesday. Go to https://www.indivisibleccv.org/september-1-2026, then look for “How to Do It” for easy instructions for registering to help defend our elections.

EVENTS AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Saturday, September 19, from 10 am – 3 pm, ICCV will host a tent at the Catawba Valley Pride Festival to be held at Anandarasa Catawba Farms in Newton. Volunteer signup at this link: https://volunteersignup.org/4JFTL

Tuesday, September 22, at 6:00 PM, the Hickory NAACP, along with ICCV and the Catawba County NAACP, are presenting a 2026 Election Workshop, presented by Common Cause NC. This is strongly recommended for members who plan to participate in the Election Defense Corps, and highly recommended for anyone interested in this year’s mid-term elections. There will be NO regular ICCV meeting on Thursday, September 24.

Saturday, September 25, from 3 – 8 pm, Todos Somos America, sponsored by Centro Latino, will be held in downtown Newton. ICCV will be providing support by wearing our ICCV gear, walking around the Festival, and providing a visible and reassuring presence for our neighbors. Volunteer signup for this event at this link: https://volunteersignup.org/WB8QT

Our primary focus will continue to be on elections between now and election day. If there is a particular election-related issue you would like us to research and address, please e-mail us at iccvlegislation@gmail.com
