The next big day of national resistance is Saturday, March 28, 2026. ICCV is planning a No Kings Rally to be held at the Catawba County Justice Center in Newton.
“We had about 1,200 people at our Oct. 18 No Kings rally,” said ICCV Chair Deb Johnson. “We want to more than double that number on March 28. We’ve lined up dynamic speakers to speak truth to power about the harms being done to our neighbors, the harms being done to the ‘least of these.’”
The keynote speaker will be Rev. Dr. Hannah Broome, director of religious affairs for Repairers of the Breach, founded by Rev. Dr. William Barber, II. Last year, when talking about the so-called Big Beautiful Bill, which made ICE the largest-funded U.S. law enforcement agency, Broome said, “This budget is a betrayal of every sacred tradition that teaches us to care for the widow, to care for the orphan, to care for the stranger, to care for the poor.
“You don't need to be a Christian to hear the warning of the prophet Isaiah when he says, ‘Woe to those who make unjust laws.’ You only need a conscience,” Broome added.
Other speakers on the agenda, which starts at 12 noon, include area leaders who will outline the harms being done and the suffering of our Catawba Valley neighbors. Invited speakers include Beth Brandes, Alex Tenjhay, Rev. Leo Morton, Rev. Reggie Longcrier, Rabbi Dennis Jones, and Peg Hites, who will talk about the harms being done to our disabled neighbors.
The Catawba County United Way Is the recipient of this rally's mutual aid. Their programs for helping the working poor will benefit from our donations. Please give as generously as you are able.
ICCV recommends attendees car pool and arrive early. There will be chanting and music and a collection drive for ICCV’s mutual aid efforts (more to come on that).
